A new trend is born!

Central TV recently covered our training with a piece on local TV, they came with us to Ireland filming us at the Northern Ireland Institute of Sport, but they also filmed us training in the local pool, we run up and down in water it's hard work but helps on the joints, anyway at the pool all the other people who use it know us now very well and when I went up today I was told most who watch us in the pool have now taken to walking , not running in the pool, apparently I've started a new trend, they're calling it the Blind Dave Walk, everyone is at it up there and they are so supportive of us , it's absolutely fantastic , I'm going to the local press to see if they will come up take some photo's and do an article on it, I'll get them all to do a conga in the pool. Other than that we are taking our training very seriously!

Marathon route

The marathon route is now set in stone, starting on 7th April in Falklands, moving daily onto Santiago, Chile, Los Angeles, Sydney, Dubai, Nairobi and finishing in the Flora London marathon. we actually fly out to the Falklands on 30th March, having a couple of nights in Santiago before catching a flight on to the Falklands, one little problem at present as we all know is the trouble in Nairobi, so a watchful eye is being kept on all the goings on , not mine you'll understand! just in case we do have to quickly change the African leg, other wise things are moving on quite nicely,

We are due to run the first half of the year in a fortnight, the Four village half in Helsby,

Now for a great story of how not to make a recovery drink, especially when your blind! I normally put the recovery powder in a glass and mix thoroughly with a fork, but I came up with a bright idea, you'll like this , I suggested after one of our long runs before Xmas to Mac, I would make us a recovery smoothy, I'd treated myself to one for Xmas, a smoothy machine that is. I chopped up some bananas , tipped in 4 sachets of recovery powder and two pints of water, then turned on the smoothy, the only thing I can say it was a good job Mac was with me, I mixed and mixed and mixed, then Mac shouted Stop. The recovery drink began to froth, in fact it frothed out of the top of the smoothy, down the back, all over the work surface, in fact it continued on it's journey over the edge and onto the washing machine, the tumbler drier, into the dogs bowl and made an enormous puddle on the kitchen floor, at this point my two loving daughters sprinted up the stairs to tell Debb, the wife, talk about grass me up and get me into trouble . Mac more than me frantically began to clean up the mess, it took a lot of cloths, tissues and the help of the mop and bucket, but with the help of the girls I still got a ticking off. I did manage to get two recovery drinks of a sort out of the smoothy machine , a little frothy admittedly and they took a long time to digest and the honest answer is to all who read this don't bother attempting it , not only did the glass stay frothy but the tummy did too, my recommendation is to mix it the conventional way it's much better and not so messy, from now on I will be taking Lucozade products the conventional way, so a lesson learned and hopefully shared.
